μFocus technology is at the heart of HST's product line for MALDI-TOF MS. Unique, proprietary technology produces thin, disposable, single-use stainless steel targets with hydrophilic islands (μFocus spots) on a hydrophobic surface. The results is precise, concentrated, deposition of sample in precise, well-formed spots.

μFocus targets give you a precisely formed dried droplet spot of predetermined size. You can work with larger (1700-2000 μm) spots and use standard spotting techniques. You can also work with much smaller spots (700-900 μm) that allow you to reduce the amount of matrix used, to maintain optimum matrix to analyte ratio with less concentrated or smaller analyte samples. Many users report 5-10x increases in sensitivity. Because μFocus spots are uniform, you also see improvements in spot-to-spot reproducibility, making quantitative analysis and fingerprint assays more reliable.
